Workshop Overview: There are several crisis protocols in place whenever a terrorist and violent extremist incident takes place. Some are focused regionally and there is little coordination between varying protocols. That coordination is crucial for the trust and safety community which lacks cross-platform threat intelligence or round-the-clock worldwide monitoring capabilities. Tech Against Terrorism proposes to run an engaging panel to focus on crisis responses and the unique role APAC can play in tackling threats at times of crisis for the trust and safety community. The session will explore opportunities for growth and innovation in Trust & Safety, specifically in the context of evolving technologies and strategic responses to misuse. Benefits for Participants: Participants will gain insights from expertise from Tech Against Terrorism as well as insights from government voices dealing with real-world terrorist crises which have a viral impact online. - Showcase localised approaches to combating online abuse and the role of regulations in shaping these efforts. - Highlight the impact of emerging technologies, such as GenAI, on the Trust & Safety sector. - Examine how malicious actors are exploiting these advancements and discuss strategic responses. - Provide an interactive platform for exploring tech-driven improvements and practical solutions for enhancing workflows and upskilling practitioners. - Specifically address the role of AI in improving crisis response mechanisms. Proposed Structure: - Introduction by Tech Against Terrorism: Overview of the current state of emerging threats and the influence of technologies like GenAI on Trust & Safety. - Government Insights: Keynote address exploring strategic responses and regulatory impacts on combating online threats. - Lessons Learned and Challenges: Panel discussion on establishing effective Incident Response Protocols and the significance of 24/7 monitoring capacities. - Strategic Responses: Highlighting coordinated approaches to crisis response, particularly in the APAC region, with a focus on smaller online platforms. - Interactive Tabletop Exercise: An interactive exercise simulating a crisis event, such as a terrorist act linked to an election, to provide hands-on experience in response strategies and coordination. Strategic Objectives: The workshop aims to: - Enhance understanding of the global impact of Tech Against Terrorism’s incident response capabilities. - Increase exposure to innovative approaches and regulations tailored to the APAC context. - Demonstrate the commitment to advancing crisis response mechanisms and support the Christchurch Call to Action initiatives. - Foster collaboration among APAC stakeholders to improve Trust & Safety practices and policies. Conclusion: This workshop will provide a unique platform for participants to learn from expert insights, engage in strategic discussions, and partake in practical exercises. The collaboration between Tech Against Terrorism and government experts t TSPA APAC will ensure a comprehensive and impactful session, aligning with the summit's goal of highlighting APAC's role in Trust & Safety.
