A lot has been written about government censorship, and the need for tech companies to do better when it comes to protecting online speech is widely discussed. But what happens when the two collide and tech companies are faced with external pressures to remove content that they may not want to? What are the goals, considerations and tumbling blocks that pave the path towards rights-respecting content moderation? In this presentation, we will explore the human and organizational side of decision-making when the stakes are high and tech companies are faced with the pressure to “censor”, and take you through potential options to tackle this conundrum using risk-based methodology.
