The goal of this workshop is to allow professionals from different teams working within a platform to brainstorm together in building safety into the platform’s functionalities from the get go. Organisers will introduce a hypothetical platform with 4-5 features on the roadmap that leadership would like to launch. The features include: infinite scrolling, recommending groups, multimedia sharing, direct messages, and introducing visible engagement metrics. Teams will be assigned a feature and given resources to conduct a mini assessment to map out the potential risks stemming from the feature, and what mitigations and governance structures can be implemented to reduce the risk. To conclude the exercise, each team will briefly present their conclusions on whether it is worth introducing the feature to the platform based on the exercise conducted, and what safety mechanisms they would bake into the feature pre-launch.
