Mandatory transparency reporting has become a recurring theme in online safety regulation, but meaningful transparency reporting is harder to identify and rare to find. In this workshop, participants will try their hand at drafting a transparency notice from the perspective of a regulator, considering what metrics tell a meaningful story about online safety efforts on different type of services. They will then swap roles and respond to the notices from the perspective of a platform, considering what information is feasible to collect, track and whether they agree with the suggested metrics. This is a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the challenges and trade-offs involved in transparency reporting, tackling complex issues through scenario planning, metrics mapping and group discussion.
