Intelligence and analysis plays a crucial role in today’s Trust & Safety operations. However, it risks being siloed as a reactive service for investigations. Even integrated, proactive teams are typically limited to making optional recommendations that can fall down development priorities. This presentation uses a series of real world case studies to present a new vision for intelligence-led Trust & Safety. It is an alternative strategic model for platforms & services featuring role-reversal, where intelligence guides operations. In demonstrating how law enforcement introduced and evolved the approach, this presentation shows the value of combining strong mitigation with a focus on unforeseen harms, leveraging intelligence to push risk further away. Covering violent extremism, child safety and wider harms, the presentation will illustrate how to implement intelligence-led Trust & Safety today: including practical tips for how policy, enforcement, and other teams can maximise intelligence capabilities, and focus resources, for greater return on investment.
