Joël leads product for Canva's Trust & Safety (T&S) team and platform across policy, people, process and technical tooling to safeguard their community. Driving vision, strategy, and goals, he co-chairs Canva's Ethics & Values forum and works with product teams to assess and mitigate safety concerns and escalations. Most notably, he balanced safety, fair representation, and expression in Canva's generative AI to empower everyone to design.

Previously he led Cloud Developer Platform at Atlassian, Product & Privacy at Sonder.io, and multiple products at Google over six years across consumer, enterprise, social, hardware, AI/ML, voice, geo/maps, hardware, and mobile. Joël also co-founded a social impact startup, mentored dozens of startups and nonprofits, and volunteered to help government groups innovate across education, safety, and security. He enjoys more hobbies than you'd expect, though now spends most of his time as a dedicated dad.
