The relationship between social media platforms and governments is complex, but can be especially tenuous in the Asia-Pacific region where online threats often pose immediate, real-life dangers. Undue government involvement in content moderation practices can contribute to a climate of misinformation and censorship, affecting users’ rights to access information and freedom of expression. This session will begin to unpack some of these complexities and provide a forum to discuss lessons learned.
